Recently, our Brand & Marketing Manager, Katie Brickle, visited Ysgol Garth Olwg in South Wales to see the Woodland Trust’s free tree packs in action.
Watching pupils from the school’s Eco Forum plant trees around the school grounds, it quickly became clear that the day was about much more than putting trees in the ground.
It was about seeing young people take pride in improving the place where they learn every day, asking questions about wildlife, getting their hands muddy and working together to create something that will grow for years to come.
When the pupils were asked what they’d enjoyed most about the day, many gave the same answer:
“Watching the trees grow in the future.”
Their answer said everything.
It’s why Eco Nature is proud to support the Woodland Trust’s Free Trees for Schools and Communities scheme. And with applications for this year’s free tree packs closing in August, we’d love to see even more schools and community groups take part.
What happens next?
Earlier this year, we shared the next chapter in our partnership with the Woodland Trust. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to see it come to life.
From pupils planting trees at Ysgol Garth Olwg to volunteers at Gelligaer & Merthyr Common, we’ve seen first-hand the difference these tree packs are already making.
What stood out most wasn’t the number of trees planted. It was the people planting them. Children, volunteers and local communities coming together to create something they’ll be able to return to, care for and watch grow for years to come.
This spring alone, the Woodland Trust distributed 434,370 trees to 2,456 schools and community groups across the UK, helping create greener spaces for both people and wildlife.
Sometimes, all it takes is one tree to start something bigger.
